Introducing Benjamin Lampert

Ben News

Since December 2010, Benjamin Lampert has been working as a Community Coach here at Brentford FC Community Sports Trust. The role is part of a 3 month apprenticeship programme in partnership with Brunel University.

Ben is an FA level 2 Football Coach and is currently working towards his Level 3 (UEFA B License). Ben is also profoundly deaf and part of his role has seen him designing, developing and delivering a new football club specifically for deaf children.

To support both his personal and project development, Ben has been coaching in 3 local primary and secondary schools, all of which have either a deaf unit or a number of deaf children in their classes.

The response from the schools has been very positive and Ben has proved a real hit with the pupils. As well as the football sessions for deaf children, Ben is developing his skills in other sports too. He is about to start a tennis coaching course and has already began assisting as a tennis coach at the Brentford Fountain Leisure Centre. Recently, the Trust received the good news that Ben’s apprenticeship will be extended for a further 3 months. We are delighted that Ben will be staying with us and are looking forward to supporting him as he develops his coaching skills in conjunction with the deaf football project.

Peter Shears, BFCCST Disability Projects Manager said “Ben is a very positive person and has a natural ability to get on with people. In the space of 2 months he has created positive links with about 40 deaf children and the feedback from the schools is excellent. He is a real asset to us here at the Trust”.

Ben said of his role to date “I have a wonderful experience working here with Brentford FC Community Sport Trust. It is my dream and perfect job style for me for working with deaf children in different school. It is my passion and commitment for working in sports, I love it! I am really glad to be working with Brentford FC for another 3 months. Its more challenge for me.”

As well as his dual role as both a student and Trust employee, Ben also plays for the Great Britain Deaf Football Team and has represented GB at both national and international level. Those of us that have played with and against him will attest that his footballing skills are second to none, indeed Ben is one of our best players here at the Trust!

We wish Ben every success as he continues to develope his career and this new and exciting project.
