Team BFC CST completes Ride London-Surrey 100

Ride London Surrey - Team BFC CST completes 100 mile fundraiser for the Trust.

On Sunday 2nd August, The Brentford FC Community Sports Trust team saddled up and took part in the Ride London-Surrey 100. Joining over 25,000 riders, the Trust team cycled through the streets of London and over the hills of Surrey to raise money for charitable causes.

Two months of training, and a specially commissioned BFC CST shirt, meant that not only did the Trust team complete the 100m ride but they did it in style!

Team BFC CST, which included three peloton teams and six individual riders, were raising money to support the Trust’s valuable work in the community. With a target set at £10,000, Trust Executive Lee Doyle hopes that the money raised can be used to invest in the creation of a new trainee position at the Trust.

Connecting members of the Trust, Club and their corporate partners – the Trust team welcomed a variety of personnel with a wide-ranging level of cycling experience.

Here is what some of the team thought about the big day.

Kevin O’Connor, Former First Team captain and Current Development coach

It was tough but really enjoyable. It was the furthest I have ever cycled and I definitely was helped around by the other members of our team. The atmosphere was amazing especially finishing at Buckingham Palace – it makes me consider doing something like this again… although I think I need to recover first.

Mark Burridge, Presenter of Bees Player

Cycling up The Mall and attempting a sprint finish in front of 1000's of well-wishers is something that will live long in the memory. Thanks to all those who helped sponsor the team to reach our target and Lee Doyle and co for making it such fun to be part of.

Nity Raj, Brentford FC Director

I had a fantastic ride on Sunday at the Surrey 100. What a privilege to ride with King Kev and the rest of the BFC and Trust team.  The weather was glorious and although the climbs were tough, it was incredibly satisfying to get to the top of Box Hill. Amazing support from Londoners all-round the course… and especially happy to hear a few cheers for wearing a Brentford FC branded cycling jersey!

Andrew Telfer, Divisional Chief Executive at Willmott Dixon

With Willmott Dixon working closely with the Club on the development of the new stadium, when Lee Doyle invited me to join the Bees Ride 100 team I jumped at the opportunity. What a fantastic way to raise money for charity! My message to those reading this; Why not be part of it yourself in 2016?

Mike Sullivan, Brentford FC Commercial Manager

The Trust managed to advise me on a great new bike and I completed 25 miles in 1 hour 47 minutes. Credit to the bike for 95% of it! Obviously I pleaded with Lee to let me do the 100-mile leg … okay… maybe I didn’t.  It was a cracking day and I was really proud to be a part of it and to raise money for the Trust. We went through the finishing line together so it really was a team effort.

Jay Reza, Accounts Assistant at Brentford FC CST

Ride London was amazing and it was an experience like no other. It is not often that you get to cycle on free roads with thousands of other cyclists from the hills of Surrey into the City! I am definitely looking to doing more than 25 miles next time!

Lee Doyle, Chief Executive at Brentford FC CST

It was a brilliant day spent with a fantastic group of people; the camaraderie developed between the team is why we all love sport. Credit to the organisers and those who developed the Ride 100 for a sporting event that the nation can be proud of. Bring on next year!
