Brentford Women’s are going the distance

 In News

We are now 12 days in the Race Europe event, having covered just over 2500km so far. Our team of runners, cyclists and walkers have reached four Euro 2020 cities , namely Dublin, London, Amsterdam and Copenhagen.

The event is currently running throughout March and our team continues to be motivated to go the distance and fundraise vital funds for the Brentford FC Community Sports Trust community programmes and a new cycling hub based at Gunnersbury Park. This new cycling hub will encourage more cyclists in the local area to stay active and will help the development of a new companion cycling initiative, which focuses on providing specialised physical activity and well-being engagement opportunities, through cycling.

In light of the International Women’s Day earlier this week, two of our team members shared their main thoughts and motivations, to go the distance throughout this month:

Mollie Holmes – Brentford Women’s FC 1st Team captain, said:

“Since the start of lockdown, it has been difficult to find ways to stay motivated and have consistent training levels. I have been running regularly throughout lockdown and this event helped me to stay fit in preparation for the return of competitive football.

Sophie Lee – Sports massage therapist, said:

Taking part in Race Europe keeps me motivated ready for a return to competitive football. I find the nature of the challenge competitive and I will be cycling throughout this month to help the team cover the longest distance possible. It truly has inspired me to cycle more often and find new cycling routes in London.”
