Brentford FC Community Sports Trust welcomed the local community to the Clubhouse Café on Tuesday for an evening with Professor Ben Hine.
The evening explored the expectations surrounding masculinity, how they shape the experiences and mental health of men and boys, and what we can all do to support positive change.
In what was an insightful and honest conversation, guests were able to explore the topic led by Professor Ben Hine in a safe and open environment.
Talking Is The Best Tactic
The evening with Professor Ben Hine was part of Brentford's wider Talking Is The Best Tactic initative. Brentford FC is one of ten clubs taking part in the Premier League’s suicide prevention pilot programme, which aims to provide support for fans experiencing suicidal thoughts.
Together, the Trust and Brentford FC are using their platforms and community outreach to raise awareness of suicide and how it can be prevented. Working together, we will seek to reduce stigma and encourage help-seeking behaviours. This will include providing fans and the wider community with opportunities to hear from experts at monthly events, as well as the launch of an awareness campaign encouraging people to talk.
Men continue to account for 75 per cent of suicides in England and Wales. To help men and other groups engage in open conversation, the Trust continues to deliver a range of wellbeing sessions throughout the year.
