At Brentford FC and Brentford FC Community Sports Trust, October is an important time of the year to recognise the role that Black history has played in our society, as well as celebrating our Black colleagues, players and staff.

We appreciate that Black history and culture should not just be remembered in the month of October, but across the year. One of Brentford FC's key values is togetherness and that means that diversity is a part of the Club and Trust and who we are.

This year, the theme for Black History Month is Celebrating our Sisters, Saluting our Sisters, and Honouring Matriarchs of Movements.

The theme highlights the crucial role that Black women have played in shaping history, inspiring change, and building communities. Black women have always been at the forefront of social justice movements, fighting against oppression and paving the way for change. As part of Black History Month Brentford midfielder Josh Dasilva sat down with Brentford FC Community Sports Trust to talk about Black History Month and what it means to him and his family.

Josh said, "I think Black History Month is important to uplift and show that were worthy in a sense, even though we shouldn't have to. But it is good opportunity for other cultures to understand black people and where we have come from."

"All of the sacrifice my mum has gone through"

In keeping with the theme of Celebrating our Sisters Josh discussed the influence and inspiration his mum has had during his career.

"My mum inspired me a lot when I was younger and all of the sacrifice she has gone through is always at the back of my mind when I'm walking out onto the pitch."
