Brentford FC Community Sports Trust’s Free To Be Me programme, in partnership with Lampton Leisure, who operate leisure services in the London Borough of Hounslow, and The Positive Movement Project, helps children improve their physical fitness and build mental resilience.

With one in six children facing mental and physical health challenges, the weekly sessions have been providing participants with the tools to thrive.

Free To Be Me

The Free to Be Me initiative has been created to help young people get more physically active and reduce childhood obesity rates across the borough. The sessions, which will run across three sites, are free to attend and include a range of sports targeted at different groups and abilities, including a football class designed to inspire girls of South Asian heritage.

The classes can be booked from now until 14 October 2024. The timetable includes:

  • South Asian Girls Football, Mondays 4.30 – 6pm (Heston Pools & Fitness)

  • Multi Sports, Tuesdays 4.30 – 6pm (Brentford Fountain Leisure Centre)

  • Street Dance, Wednesdays 4.30 – 6pm (Hanworth Air Park Leisure Centre)

The initiative forms part of Lampton Leisure’s ongoing commitment to improving access to health and wellbeing services for all communities across Hounslow.

The Positive Movement Project

The Positive Movement Project aims to improve mental health and combat social isolation through fitness, sport, movement and play.

This is done through year-round accessible events and activities that are centred around moving to feel good whilst becoming proactive about mental health and fostering positive connections. Improving mental health is at the heart of the Positive Movement Project.
