Brentford FC Community Sports Trust has steadily increased the expansion of its provision for a number of years, branching out to neighboring boroughs in Surrey and Berkshire.
Having recently started working with the Slough School Sport Network offering free PE provision in schools, the Trust now delivers in 20 schools across Spelthorne and Berkshire.
As schools now break for the summer holidays, Brentford FC Community Sports Trust Chief Executive Lee Doyle spoke to BBC Radio Berkshire’s Breakfast Show about the expansion of delivery and upcoming offering across Berkshire.
Getting More People Physically Active
In the interview, Lee said: “We feel we can offer a lot in communities and we've got the opportunity now to reach out. We're not going to stop doing what we’re doing in our local boroughs, and then there's also the opportunity of going further out and obviously with the club in the Premier League, we've had some really interesting approaches from literally all over the world. But the way we see our strategy working is we remain local, we work to regional and if you think about how we can create hubs, then we can do that and use our experience to get more people involved and more people physically active.”
Working Together To Create A Reach
With Reading FC and Maidenhead United FC already established and actively providing community provision in Berkshire, Lee also discussed the opportunity to create reach.
“We spoke to both clubs (Reading and Maidenhead), and your county (Berkshire) is pretty broad. If you look at where we are currently, with a hub at Langley Academy then we're in the east of the borough and that intersects a number of areas we're already working in, not least Hillingdon where we've got a dome there based at Uxbridge High School.
“So it makes absolute strategic sense that we'd work there, but if you if you look at it, there is so much work to be done and so many partnerships to be created, that we don't look at that as competition. It's about working together and trying to create a reach and opportunities for everybody. We’ve made contact with both clubs and we feel that we're well placed to offer something in that part of the county.”
