Mollie Holmes has been named Brentford’s Professional Footballers’ Association Community Champion 2023/24 in recognition of her continuous work in the community, helping to support the Community Sports Trust and inspiring girls of all ages to play football.
The award caps a successful season on the pitch which saw Mollie lift two trophies as Brentford completed a cup double and narrowly missed out on winning the London South East Division One North by a single point.
Despite the demands on the pitch, Mollies has been at the forefront of the Trust’s work in the community, attending numerous sessions and representing the Club and Trust at public engagements including attending Parliament for an event hosted by Ruth Cadbury MP for Brentford and Isleworth.
Mollie was recently presented the Community Champion Award at an FA Wildcats session at Bedfont Sports Club. Upon receiving the award she said, “It came as quite a surprise to be honest, I didn’t expect it. I love coming down to sessions (with the Community Sports Trust), I really enjoy it and it breaks up the seriousness of football to have something fun to attend.”
As captain Mollie sets exemplary standards for how she conducts herself on and off the pitch and her passion for inspiring others is always at the forefront.
“To me it is important how you carry yourself off the pitch. I think sometimes you don’t necessarily have to say a lot, but what you do can make a huge difference just by someone seeing you engaging at a community session.
“We as players want to inspire young girls playing football. Everyone here is like a family and I want girls to see that we are approachable and if they want to play football they can and there isn’t anything that will stop them.”
