Brentford FC Community Sports Trust are pleased to announce a new partnership with NHS Blood and Transplant, the agency responsible for the supply of blood, organs, tissues and stem cells.

On 12th October NHS Blood and Transplant declared its first ever amber alert over blood supplies, meaning overall blood stocks in England are at a critically low level. This follows an urgent call for more donors of Black Heritage to treat sickle cell, the fastest growing genetic condition in the UK. Sickle cell is more prevalent in people of Black heritage and ethnically matched blood provides the best treatment.

We will be working together to inform our local community on the blood donation process, to raise awareness of the blood diseases that disproportionately impact certain communities, and to encourage people to register as blood donors.

Emily Donovan, our Health and Wellbeing Manager, had this to say about the partnership: “This partnership gives us a unique opportunity to raise awareness of the importance of blood donation.  We hope to give a voice to those with lived experience of conditions such as sickle cell and inspire more members of our local community to register as blood donors.”
