On Friday afternoon, more than 100 local young people involved in Brentford FC Community Sports Trust’s Community Engagement programmes came together for the MOTORS Cup—a free football tournament proudly sponsored by MOTORS.
The tournament was the second in a series of events supported by Brentford FC's partner, MOTORS.
Fostering Community and Participation
The tournament, held at Gunnersbury Park during the Easter school holidays, aimed to engage a wide audience of young people by providing them with the chance to take part in a free, organised football competition. Beyond the excitement of the game, the event aimed to strengthen community connections and inspire greater participation – which saw 60 new young people compete who wouldn’t have engaged without this opportunity.
Thanks to MOTORS, every young participant in the tournament walked away with a MOTORS water bottle and a drawstring bag, in addition to the traditional trophies for the winning teams and medals for all players.
In addition to sponsoring the event, MOTORS played a key role in its success by engaging staff volunteers through the company’s Employer Supported Volunteering program. Their participation brought a strong sense of community spirit, making the tournament even more memorable.
Opportunities Like This Add Value
Graham Goodden, Community Engagement Senior Manager at Brentford FC Community Sports Trust, said, “Thanks to the continued support from Motors, we have managed to engage with over 100 young people from across our projects such as Premier League Kicks, Hounslow Street Sports and Changing Directions. Opportunities like this add so much value to projects and give participants the chance to take part in an organised tournament that many might not engage with otherwise.”
Erin Caldwell, Senior Partnership Account Manager at Brentford FC, said, “With MOTORS being a business headquartered locally, having a meaningful impact on the local community has been a hugely important aspect of our partnership from the outset. It’s fantastic to see this demonstrated through events such as the MOTORS Cup, with a great atmosphere and so many smiling faces, so thank you to MOTORS for making this possible.”
Lucy Tugby, Director of Marketing at MOTORS, commented, “We’re incredibly proud to support the MOTORS Cup and see how events like these can bring young people together to learn, grow, and connect through sport. Opportunities like this not only nurture important skills like teamwork and confidence but also create a real sense of belonging within the community. It’s a privilege to play a part in making a positive difference, and seeing so many young people out enjoying themselves is what it’s all about.”
