Sheen Mount Primary School recently won the Premier League Primary Stars National Girls' Football Tournament held at Molineux Stadium, home of Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The tournament featured football club charities from across the Premier League, English Football League and National League, and aimed to shine a light on the Premier League's commitment to supporting the growth of the women's game at all levels.
In the final, Sheen Mount Primary School came from behind to defeat Southampton's St Francis Church of England Primary School and lift the trophy.
Ben Abrahams, Premier League Primary Stars Coordinator at Brentford FC Community Sports Trust, commented, "It was a really successful tournament. The girls did fantastically well to win the competition. In the semi-final against Ipswich, they were pegged back after leading 2–0, but showed great character to come through the penalty shootout. They then demonstrated further resilience in the final, coming from a goal down to win the tournament."
"I'm really proud of myself," said Sheen Mount captain Lottie, who scored both goals for her team in the final. "It was so exciting when the ball hit the back of the net. It hasn't sunk in yet, but I'm feeling really good."
Penalty Heartbreak
On day one of the tournament, it was penalty heartbreak for the Trust's mixed team from Glebe Primary in Ickenham. Despite losing on penalties in the semi-final by the eventual winners, Codsall Middle School from Wolves, they were awarded the Fair Play Award by Premier League staff and referees.
This recognised the team's attitude throughout the tournament and, in particular, the sportsmanship and resilience they showed in handling their defeat.
