During the Easter holidays, over 100 players and six teams from the Trust's Football Development Centre travelled to Spain to take part in the Trofeo Mediterráneo Cup – and what a trip it turned out to be.
Coming up against teams from all over the world, the standard was high, and the games were competitive throughout. Two of our teams went deep into the tournament, with one reaching the final, which was a fantastic achievement and a real reflection of the players’ hard work and attitude.
But this trip was about more than just football.
More Than Just Matches
For many of the players, this was their first experience of playing abroad. It gave them the chance to meet new people, spend time with teammates, and experience a different culture.
Luca Hood said, “The trip was really good because I met new people and learned about them.”
Jack Santos added, “I liked the trip because I enjoyed spending time with my friend and playing football.”
That theme came up again and again – players building friendships, not just within their own teams, but across the whole group.
Theo Clarke summed it up, “I loved it so much, and I made better relationships with teammates.”
Competing on an International Stage
Playing against international opposition from Argentina, Brazil, Germany, and Spain was a big highlight. It challenged the players in new ways and pushed them to improve.
Adam Naylin said, “I loved this trip as we came second in an international tournament and captained the team in the final.”
Dylan Capel-Davies also enjoyed the experience, “Playing an international tournament and meeting other countries and playing against them was amazing.”
Even where results didn’t go their way, there was a real sense of learning and development. Ronell Faikpe reflected, "Playing against good teams around the world helped us learn how we need to improve.”
Atmosphere, Experience and Memories
Away from the pitch, the atmosphere throughout the week stood out. Whether it was matchdays, team meals or time spent relaxing together, the players made the most of every moment.
Raayan Ahmed Kedir said, “There was a really good atmosphere at matches, mealtimes, ceremonies and even in the free time we had.”
For others, it was the overall experience that made it special. Oliver Plichta described it as “my favourite trip so far,” while Alfie Clark said it was “the best trip this year… definitely coming back on the next one!”
Thank You
A big thank you goes to all the coaches and staff who made the trip possible. Their effort and support throughout the week ensured the players got the most out of the experience – on and off the pitch.
